Why revamp the donation forms?

Forms for memberships, donations, events, and more are core to our service. They help you grow your resources and, for many of you, are a primary source of funding. Without them, the growth—or even survival—of your organization could be at risk.

However, the current donation forms are far from optimal. Besides looking outdated, some configurations make them challenging for members, donors, and others to use.

Through our daily conversations with you, we realized that a major overhaul was necessary.

This is a massive undertaking—what you see is just the tip of the iceberg, involving significant updates to the software’s underlying code.

Why start with donation forms?

As the new school year approaches, this is a key question.

We chose to prioritize donation forms because they’re simpler than membership forms but just as crucial, as they connect to your Community. This timing also ensures you’re prepared for the end-of-year giving peak.

What’s changing in the donation funnel?

In a word: everything 😄

• 🌟 The new donation process is modern, intuitive, and fully optimized for mobile use! Regardless of age or tech-savviness, donors can navigate it easily.

• 🌟 The donation description, options, and donor information are now all on a single page.

• 🌟 Donors no longer need to log in during the process, though they can access their profile after donating.

Overall, these updates remove the friction donors used to experience, making it easier for them to support your organization—boosting your chances of receiving donations.

Responsive design

The donation page now adapts to the device and information provided—whether on a computer, tablet, or mobile, with or without text or images.

And, the buttons now match your website’s main color, which you can choose under Settings > Website > Advanced Settings.

Improved information requests

Previously, some information was requested multiple times, making the process long and frustrating. Now, information is only requested once and reused if needed. Additionally, this helps identify if the donor is already in your community and avoids duplicate contacts.

ℹ️ Note: To simplify things, we’ve removed the option to ask for a profile photo, which was rarely used. Donors can still add one later via their profile.

No more required logins or account creation

Until now, donors had the option to create an account, log in, or proceed without an account—this often caused confusion. We’ve removed this step, as it added little value. However, donors can still log in or create an account from the top or bottom of the page. Once logged in, they can access and edit personal information or retrieve tax receipts.

ℹ️ Exception: If you restrict form access to specific contacts, the login page will still be displayed.

Simplified form configuration

Some options have been removed, either for simplicity or due to technical limitations.

In the first version of this new donation funnel, you won’t be able to preview your form. Don’t worry—just publish it and check it out online. It won’t be accessible until you share the link.

We’ve also removed certain payment settings, like limiting the number of donations per person or form, as they aren’t suitable for donation collections.

Finally, it’s no longer possible to create a purchase path after the donation, as other form types aren’t supported by the same technology.
